Janata Jute Mills is also home to a landmark project for Bangladesh: an 8.035 MWh battery energy storage system, the country’s first large scale battery storage installation of its kind. Paired with the mill’s solar capacity, the system allows stored solar energy to be used outside daylight hours, smoothing out supply and reducing dependence on the grid even further.

Bangladesh’s jute sector is largely export oriented, and international buyers, particularly in the EU, increasingly factor a supplier’s environmental footprint into sourcing decisions.
