Telecom network infrastructure runs around the clock. Base transceiver stations (BTS) and supporting facilities need a constant, reliable power supply, and for operators managing thousands of sites nationwide, electricity is one of the largest ongoing operating costs, and one of the biggest opportunities for efficiency gains. As part of its network sustainability efforts, Robi partnered with Cynergy Limited to deploy a 3.30 MWp solar power installation supporting its infrastructure in Bangladesh.

The Challenge

Telecom sites cannot tolerate power interruptions, which means any renewable energy integration has to work alongside, not against, existing grid and backup power systems. The goal was to reduce grid dependency and long term operating costs without compromising the uptime telecom infrastructure demands.

The Solution

Cynergy designed and delivered a 3.30 MWp solar installation engineered to integrate with Robi’s existing power infrastructure. The system was planned to maximize generation during peak daylight hours, when network load and grid demand are typically highest, offsetting a meaningful share of consumption from conventional sources.

Why It Matters

Telecom operators across Bangladesh are under growing pressure, from regulators, investors, and customers alike, to reduce their carbon footprint while keeping networks reliable and costs predictable. A solar installation of this scale demonstrates that large telecom infrastructure operators can meaningfully shift toward renewable energy without any compromise on network reliability, using an approach that can scale across additional sites.

The Bigger Picture

This project reflects a broader trend Cynergy sees across Bangladesh’s telecom and heavy industry sectors: large energy consumers increasingly treat solar not as an experiment, but as core infrastructure planning. Across all of Cynergy’s projects to date, the company has delivered over 115 MWp of solar capacity across 40+ completed projects, generating an estimated 147 GWh of clean energy annually and reducing CO2 emissions by more than 117,000 tons per year nationwide.
